A Nobel Laureate Lectures at UJ

Dr. Dia-Eddin Arafeh, Vice- President for Scientific Faculties and Institutes, received Prof. Harold Kroto who won a Nobel Prize in 1996 in recognition of his contributions in the field of chemistry. The meeting was attended by the deans of Engineering; Science; and Information Technology, professors from the Department of Chemistry, Director of the Office of International Relations, Dr. Rami Ali.

Prof. Arafeh briefed the guest on UJ’s history as well as the development it has witnessed since establishment especially in the different fields of science. He also retrieved the different exchange programs and MoU’s UJ signed with its counterparts abroad. He also shed light on the diversity of UJ’s student body. The deans, on their parts, talked about the history of establishing their faculties and the different projects they are carrying out currently. Dr. Ali talked about the exchange programs, and opportunities which are offered to postgraduates who seek to pursue their studies.

Prof. Kroto delivered a lecture to introduce his initiative “Global educational outreach for Science, engineering and technology”, and another in his area of expertise. Students and faculty had the opportunity to engage with Prof. Kroto during a workshop, in which he discussed with them many ideas pertaining to his initiative and innovations.
